I spent the first part of my career as a telecom software programmer and test engineer. I worked for Ericsson, Siemens, and Optilink (which later became DSC). When I became a mother, I decided to be a stay-at-home mother. One day (several years later) my local school called and asked if I would do a long-term substitution (a full semester) for their business teacher. I agreed, and that is when I
discovered I loved teaching. So, when my youngest started third grade I became a full-time teacher. I spent 24 years in education. Four years as a long term-substitute for different school systems and 20 years as a full-time teacher.
I have taught many different classes in twenty years: Business Information Management I & II, graphic design, desktop publishing, animation, video, web mastering, keyboarding, digital information management, yearbook, engineering design I & II, introduction to engineering design, principles of engineering design, and robotics. I also had a Robotics team that participated in B.E.S.T. Robotics
competitions. The team went to state in 2023.
After twenty-four years in public education, I witnessed the deterioration and failure of the public school system. Students became a number, sports became the most important thing, getting the highest GPA instead of learning, meeting state and federal expectations instead of the student’s needs became the norm. So many brilliant kids in the public system are being left behind due to laws passed by individuals that have never been in a classroom. Children have different learning styles, different challenges, different speeds of learning – all these need to be addressed but cannot be in a public system. Therefore, I decided to retire from public education and take my skills and knowledge to the private sector.
I am a wife and mother. My husband is a hardware and test engineer for a company in Dallas. My son, Matthew, is a zoologist at the Abilene Zoo, he works in the reptile house. His specialty is reptiles, but he cares about all animals. He works with many snakes that are highly venomous. The average person runs away from a snake, my son runs to it. My daughter, Taylor, is an actor and dancer making her way in Hollywood. Look for this beautiful red head on your television screens and in theaters. Check out her web site at taylrfostr.com or look up Taylor Foster on IMDB.
